The State Labour Inspectorate participates in the exhibition "For Safe Work 2008"
The State Labour Inspectorate, with the support of the European Social Fund, will participate in the working environment safety and labour protection exhibition "For Safe Work 2008", which will be held from 27 to 29 November 2008 in Riga at the International Exhibition Centre "BT-1"
International conference "Quality of Work - Quality of Life. Role of labour inspection in implementation of European and national strategies"
On November 20-21 in the „Islande Hotel” Riga, Íîpsalas ielâ 20, the State Labour Inspectorate and International Association of Labour Inspection within the framework of the European Social Fund will hold an international conference „Quality of Work - Quality of Life. Role of labour inspection in implementation of European and national strategies”, and there will participate representatives of 22 countries.
Good Practice Award „Golden Helmet 2008” awarded to A/S "Latvenergo"
Within the European Week for Safety and Health at Work 2008 “Safe and healthy workplaces: Good for you – Good for business!” the State Labour Inspectorate (SLI) has already for the sixth year invited entrepreneurs to apply for the Good Practice Award “Golden Helmet”. The aim of the competition was to facilitate an integrated management approach to the working environment risk assessment.

Labour Inspectorate implements campaign "Manual Handling of Loads – 2008"
The European Union Member states already the second year are implementing the information and inspection campaign "Manual Handling of Loads". Within the campaign the officials of the State Labour Inspectorate in the period from 8 September to 6 October will inspect construction and retail trade sectors companies.
The Labour Inspectorate’s specialists meet colleagues from Norway
From August 26 to 28 Latvia will be visited by a delegation of 50 inspectors of the Norwegian Labour Inspectorate who come to Latvia to learn about the situation in the field of illegal employment.

Work environment has a very significant role in the life of worker, cause we spend approximately one third of our lives at work. Work environment is our workplace with all conditions and risk factors existing in and around it, which affects or could affect our safety and health at work. Therefore it is very important that workers feel as good as possible, comfortably and safe in this environment. It is proved in the world's practice that in good and well arranged work environment productivity of work increases, the number of accidents at work and occupational diseases decreases, workers are working more efficiently and their work life prolongs.
